News about my arcade cabinet project - Nameless for the time being

24 April, 2009
Received a coin mech today. Now all I'm missing is a coin door and a cabinet :-)

?? January, 2009
Bought myself a router. It is actually another project that sponsored the aqusition but now I can use it for the t-molding I bought earlier.

This is the draft for my MaLa Layout.

No need for comments about long time between updates :-)
Still going with the Q*Bert replica and are currently designing a MaLa layout along with control panel layouts for two joysticks. I have ordered t-molding and router tools for making the slot, though I don't have a router yet. I didn't get any answer from the WG reseller in England, however I got a 21" monitor for free from work. They were throwing them away. It has some focus problem but nothing so severe that is should be noticable when playing arcade games. So the dream is still living :-)

Indeed long time. Now things are moving along somewhat. I have mailed a company in England about a WG D9500 (an arcade monitor). If they don't have it I'll order directly from WG, but then I have to pay duty since it's outside the EU. I'm currently also looking at buying Mag-Stik Plus's from Ultimarc. Trackballs and steering wheels have to wait for later (or maybe even the next cabinet). The design of the cabinet will most likely be a Q*Bert replica with a redesigned control panel.

Long time between updates. Still no cabinet but since we're moving into a house the 1 June chances are getting better it will be built. I still keeping up with updates as well, 0.94.

13 June, 2004
Yet again I'm unemployed, but this might give me time to design a new control panel. The house might be getting closer (and then also the cabinet) as we're now bidding on a house. I'm still keeping up with all updates and now have all roms and binaries for 0.83.

Still not much progress. Have made an agrement with my girlfriend not to build or buy a cabinet until we buy a house. So I have to live with playing games in the little closet I have used as a server room. But I am alowed to upgrade the computer since it is now used as a HTPC as well, as it will benefit her as well :-) I'm keeping up with all updates and such and have all the ROMs and binaries for 0.74.

Not much progress, the design isn't ready yet. Haven't had time to teach myself the CAD/design program yet. What I have done is to update binaries and rom sets to 0.66, and I also have gotten a temporary employment. So now I have money again and no time, instead of vice versa :-) Since the control panel I first built was kind of temporarily, I will very soon begin constructing a new one that doesn't look quite so ugly :-)

12 December, 2002
Have been unemployed for a while so progress is kind of slow. Have gotten a CAD program (Pro/Engineer) so I can start constructing my cabinet.
Naturally I have upgraded my binaries and rom set, and yes, I do have the humongus chd-files. :-)

9 February, 2002
I now, finally, have a full rom set. Update binaries and roms to version .58. Since I don't have space at home for a cabinet I'm lobbying that we should have one at work. But I'm thinking about upgrading my arcade console with a trackball, and maybe an optical gun.

17 September, 2001
Yet new version of Mame was released. The mamedev guys must be working hard. Updated the binaries to version .55 and downloaded all the new games.

12 September, 2001
Updated the design of the pages to work for Netscape as well.

25 August, 2001
A new version of Mame was released. Updated the binaries to version .54 and downloaded all the new games.

A "new" version of ArcadeOS that work with the newer versions of Mame. Thank you, who ever did it.

11 June, 2001
Looking for a frontend to use which preferably is controlable through the input buttons in Mame.

9 June, 2001
I found out that the motherboard I got, had a SoundMAX card, which is not only integrated on the board, but also with the processor, so it doesn't work as an ordinary PCI soundcard. There are no drivers for SoundMAX in DOS, so my idea to run ArcadeOS in DOS doesn't seem to work. One good thing is that with the new stuff installed the computer boots up in Windows faster than it booted up in DOS before :-)

7 June, 2001
Got the computer today. Moved the hard disk from the old to the new one and booted it up, alas the computer hanged when I tried to play a game. When I tried to start up Windows it said "division error...bla bla bla" and it hanged there as well. Will look into it this weekend, will have plenty of time since my girlfriend is away :-)

5 June, 2001
Today I ordered a new computer, or at least a cabinet, a mother board with on-board graphic and sound card, PIII-667 (133), and 128MB. Hopefully I will get the parts on thursday.

31 May, 2001
Updated some of the pages, added a price and a computer page.

7 May, 2001
Spent the evening playing games, mostly fighting and shoot-em-up games, with a friend :-)

6 May, 2001
I built a stand-alone control panel to test the controls and the interface. It worked perfect on the first try.

3 May, 2001
Today some controls arrived with the mail.

15 December, 2000
My I-PAC just arrived, quick and swift. Thank you Andy!
